Upon your arrival at Rome Fiumicino Airport, you’re greeted by an Italy Trails representative who welcome you and provide you with the necessary travel material. You’re taken to the hotel by private car transfer and, according to your arrival time, you can begin to visit the city center.

In the morning in the schedule time you meet your guide for the sightseeing visit to discover the most popular attraction in Rome: The Colosseum. Explore the Gladiator Gate, Colosseum Arena, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill. Passing through the Gladiator’s Gate of the Colosseum, you will walk the same path as the Gladiators did…literally. This side entrance door used exclusively for gladiators reopened in 2016 with limited access. Admire the Roman Forum, once the site of temples, churches, buildings of the senate and the most important places of the Roman republic, Foro Romano is one of the greatest archaeological sites in history. Explore one of the Seven Hills of Rome – Palatine Hill is the most ancient part of the city of Rome. Optional food and wine experience:

  • In the late afternoon, from 6:30 pm onwards, you can enjoy a food and wine tour in one of the oldest and most picturesque districts of the center. You will stop in the shops, taverns, and wine bars where you will taste the specialties of Roman cuisine, local products and wines.

With a vast collection containing thousands of artworks, tours of the Vatican can seem almost overwhelming. This morning, after checking out , you can leave you luggage in store at the hotel in Rome and, in the scheduled time, you have a guided tour of The Galleria Borghese Museum houses and displays a collection of ancient sculptures, bas-reliefs, and mosaics, as well as paintings and sculptures dating from the 15th through the 19th centuries. Among the masterpieces of the collection – the first and most important part of which goes back to the collecting of Cardinal Scipione Borghese (1579-1633), nephew of Pope Paul V – are paintings by Caravaggio, Raffaello, Tiziano, Correggio, Antonello da Messina, Giovanni Bellini and sculptures by Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Canova. This morning, you will visit the Uffizi Gallery with a guide which houses a collection of priceless works of art, deriving from the Medici collections and enriched over the centuries by inheritances, exchanges and donations. Here are the most conspicuous existing collections of Raphael and Botticelli, as well as various works by Giotto, Tiziano, Pontormo, Bronzino, Andrea del Sarto, Caravaggio, Leonardo da Vinci and other famous painters of the Italian Renaissance. In the afternoon, you will continue the visit of the city. Ponte Vecchio will lead you to the district of artisan shops, trattorias and typical restaurants, where you can taste the tasty local cuisine.

Overnight: Florence

This morning in the scheduled time you discover with your guide the best works of Renaissance art such as Botticelli’s Birth of Venus and Leonardo’s Annunciation, among others. Built in 1560 and designed by Italian artist and architect Giorgio Vasari, the Uffizi Gallery is the oldest museum in the world accepting visitors by request since the 16th century and open to the public in 1765.
One of the most popular tourist attractions in Florence, Galleria degli Uffizi is where you will find a rich collection of artworks and learn the history of medieval art and the Italian Renaissance. Tour one of the most important Italian museums and the most visited after the Vatican Museums. Galleria degli Uffizi was initially intended to be an office space for the Florentine magistrates, hence the name of the Gallery (Uffizi is “offices” in Italian). In the afternoon you can discover on your own the leather craftmen of Florence, the most prestigious leather goods in Florence. Visiting Florence inevitably means stumbling upon every corner of the city in leather goods shops, not to mention the markets, such as those of the Porcellino and San Lorenzo, where endless stalls offer a varied range of similar objects. However, there are real institutions in the field of leather goods, such as the Leather School in Santa Croce. Its origin is placed immediately after the Second World War, when two Florentine families, Gori and Casini, obtained some rooms of the convent of Santa Croce thanks to a collaboration with the Franciscans to teach a trade to war orphans.

This morning you live your luggage in store at the hotel and in the early scheduled time you reach the Accademia di Belle Arti Gallery in Florence where during your guided tour you witness incredible Renaissance art and one of the greatest masterpieces in the world – Michelangelo’s statue of David. Founded in 1784 by Pietro Leopoldo the Grand Duke of Tuscany and former Holy Roman Emperor, Gallery of the Academy of Florence contains some acclaimed Gothic and Renaissance paintings and Florentine Art. But the star of Accademia Galleria is without a doubt Michelangelo’s David, one of the most beloved works of Renaissance sculpture – more breathtaking in person. This colossal work of art stands at 17 feet tall. This morning in the time schedule you enjoy the panoramic boat tour of Murano, Burano and Torcello, famous respectively for the master glassmakers, the processing of a particular type of lace and the historical monuments of the Byzantine and medieval periods. A guide will take you to the discovery of Murano, famous for the incandescent furnaces moved to this island during the fourteenth century. Visit a glass workshop where this ancient art is made, and the precious objects created by the expert master craftsmen. Burano, the island where traditional lace is processed, will surprise you not only for its precious handmade creations but also for the bright colors of the houses that line the canals. Finally, you will visit the small and enchanting Torcello and its precious Byzantine and Romanesque monuments.
