Arrival at the airport (or station) where you will find an Italy Trails representative to welcome you, deliver your travel material and accompany you to pick up the rental car, which you will need for travel during your stay. Depending on your arrival time, you can start exploring the intricate maze of streets that make up the historic center, which closely resembles the layout of Arab cities. In the city, you will not fail to be overwhelmed by the smells and flavors of the tasty and traditional Sicilian street food. Night in hotel in Palermo.
In the morning after a hearty breakfast at the hotel, you will visit one of the symbolic places of the Sicilian capital: Palazzo dei Normanni (Normal Palace). The oldest European royal residence, it boasts a very long history: an ancient Phoenician-Punic fortified building, later used by the Greeks, Romans and Byzantines, and was transformed into a royal residence by the Arabs. Inside, you will visit the golden casket that forms the Palatine Chapel, a typical example of the splendid and wise union between Arab and Norman workers, with a strong Byzantine influence. Among the typical Arab decorations, you will be captivated by the beauty of the muqarnas wrapped in gold mosaics. At the end of the visit, you will get lost in the alleys of the historic market of Ballarò, which looks exactly like a typical Arab souk. Finally, you will explore the center and the maze of its streets, where you can admire the architectural beauty at every corner. Night in hotel in Palermo.
After a hearty breakfast with typical Sicilian sweet delights, you will visit the royal tombs and the roofs of the cathedral, where you will enjoy a breathtaking skyline view over the historic center. Then, you will set off to one of the most popular destinations for Sicilians: Castellammare del Golfo, an enchanting seaside village rich in history, artistic and natural beauties. After tasting the typical cassatelle, a walk through the streets of the center will leave you in awe as you see the enchanting views and the intense red of the sunset. Night in hotel in Castellammare.
