Upon your arrival in Bologna (station or airport), you will be greeted by a member of the Italy Trails team who will welcome you and give you the travel materials. You will pick up the rental car, which you will need for travel until the last day, and you will reach Parma, one of the emblematic cities of Italian gastronomic culture, chosen as the chair of the EFSA (European Food Security Authority). You will spend the rest of the day visiting the charming central streets of the city, among historic delicatessens and refined pastry shops where you can delight yourself by tasting the delicacies, savory and sweet, and become familiar with the flavors that will accompany you during this trip. For art lovers, a visit to the main monuments of the city cannot be missed: the medieval Duomo and Baptistery, and the baroque Farnese Theater, which will leave you speechless. You will dine in a traditional restaurant and spend the night in this romantic city. Overnight in a hotel in Parma.
Throughout the day, which will be entirely dedicated to the gastronomic part of the holiday, you will be accompanied by an expert local guide starting in today’s first tasty stop: the dairy where Parmigiano Reggiano is produced. This cheese, as well as the other regional excellences that you will experience today, can be produced only in a small part of the region, following a precise and disciplined protocol; your guide will show you the places where it originates from and the secrets of its production. After that, you will transfer to an area that is in the heart of Parma where raw ham is produced to visit a ham factory and find out how this tasty salami is made. Nearby, you can admire one of the most beautiful and intact castles in the whole region, with the possibility of visiting. After a lunch of typical products in one of our most suggested places, you will visit a winery where the famous lambrusco is produced; a sparkling red wine very suitable for the oily cuisine of these lands, which you will discover in all its varieties. Finally, you will end the day with a visit to a traditional vinegar factory, where you will appreciate the uniqueness of the traditional balsamic vinegar of Modena and the reason for its exclusivity. For each visit today, there will be tastings and the opportunity to purchase the products. Overnight at the hotel in Maranello, the town of Ferrari.
You will spend the morning immersed in the red dream: you will visit the Ferrari Museum in Maranello, the temple of this legend, originally created in Modena by the genius, Enzo Ferrari, and later transferred to this small country town to escape the bombings of the Second World War. Since then, Maranello has been the center of the Ferrari world; where everything revolves around this brand – from schools, to streets, to squares. The museum is constantly renewed with one or two temporary exhibitions every year, so you can go back endless times and you will never see the same cars. For those who wish, there is also the possibility of organizing a test drive on your favorite Ferrari, an unforgettable experience that you will carry with you for a lifetime. At the end of the morning, you will board a special bus and visit the Ferrari citadel where no one is allowed to access the production environments, but there is a special external path that will lead you along the avant-garde buildings, designed by the best architects in the world, where the magic of creating these dream cars takes place every day. You will then conclude with a look at the Fiorano Circuit, where the greatest Formula 1 champions have trained. After lunch, you will be able to discover another legend: Maserati, which is based in Modena. You will visit a private collection of historic cars, unknown to the wider public as it is hidden in the heart of the Emilian countryside, and then return to the well-known contemporary showroom set up in the city. Also in Modena, you will visit the Enzo Ferrari Museum, located at the birthplace of Enzo, where you can find out more about this incredible character. Dinner and overnight in Modena.
