This tour is a true classic for first-time visitors to our country. In just over a week, it will allow you to enjoy the beauties of the most famous Italian cities of art and to appreciate their history, art, culture and even good food. The indications that you will find in your travel material will direct you to clubs and restaurants where you can try authentic and exquisite typical products and tasty regional dishes, and you can choose between the optional food and wine experiences in the various cities according to your preferences and interests.
Upon your arrival at the Rome Fiumicino Airport, you will be greeted by an Italy Trails representative who will welcome you and provide you with the necessary travel material. You will be taken to the hotel by private car and, according to your arrival time, you can begin to visit the city center.
In the morning after breakfast, you will have a guided visit to the Roman Forum, the Palatine Hill and the symbolic monument of Rome: The Colosseum, the largest amphitheater in the world, famous for its bloody and spectacular gladiator fights. You will relive the glorious past of the empire and travel back in time by visiting the Forum, admiring the Temple of Antoninus Pius, the Temple of Castor and Pollux, the Temple of Saturn, the Arch of Septimius Severus and much more. At the end of the visit, you will reach one of the most beloved gardens in the city, from where you will enjoy a spectacular view of Rome. Not far away, you cannot miss the visit to the Mouth of Truth, also famous for a scene from the film Roman Holiday. According to a medieval legend, the Mouth of Truth bites the hand of all those who tell lies and who have the courage to test themselves by inserting the limb into the jaws of the mask. You will then continue towards the Teatro Marcello, the Jewish Ghetto, Piazza del Campidoglio and Piazza Venezia, enjoying the sunset over Rome.
Optional food and wine experience:
In the evening, from 6:30 pm onwards, you can enjoy a food and wine tour in one of the oldest and most picturesque districts of the center. You will stop in the shops, taverns and wine bars where you will taste the specialties of Roman cuisine, local products and wines.
After breakfast, you will go (on foot, by taxi, by bus or by subway) to the Vatican Museums. You will meet your guide with whom you will visit the largest museum complex in the world that contains extraordinary works of art from every era. You will admire the rooms dedicated to Ancient Rome, the Etruscans, Ancient Egypt, the Gallery of the Candelabra and the Gallery of Geographical Maps, the Gallery of the Tapestries, the Raphael Rooms and finally the Sistine Chapel with the extraordinary frescoes by Michelangelo. At the end of the visit, you will continue walking in the most evocative places of the historic center: from Trastevere to Piazza San Pietro, passing by Castel Sant’Angelo to get to Piazza Navona and the Pantheon, the Quirinale, the Trevi Fountain, and Trinità dei Monti with the famous Spanish Steps.
This morning, you will go to the Termini station from where you will leave by train for Florence, which you will reach in just over an hour and a half. Once you reach your hotel, check in and leave your luggage, you will walk to discover this wonderful city, starting from the market of San Lorenzo, the Basilica of Santa Croce, Piazza della Signoria with the famous statue of David by Michelangelo and Piazza della Repubblica, up to the Duomo with the famous dome by Brunelleschi and the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella up to Piazzale Michelangelo from where you can enjoy a wonderful view of the city.
This morning, you will visit the Uffizi Gallery with a guide which houses a collection of priceless works of art, deriving from the Medici collections and enriched over the centuries by inheritances, exchanges and donations. Here are the most conspicuous existing collections of Raphael and Botticelli, as well as various works by Giotto, Tiziano, Pontormo, Bronzino, Andrea del Sarto, Caravaggio, Leonardo da Vinci and other famous painters of the Italian Renaissance. In the afternoon, you will continue the visit of the city. Ponte Vecchio will lead you to the district of artisan shops, trattorias and typical restaurants, where you can taste the tasty local cuisine.
This morning you will go to the Florence station from where you will leave by train for Venice. Once you arrive at the station, you will reach your hotel and, after leaving your luggage, you can begin your tour of the city. You will start from the San Marco district, the heart of the city, enclosed between the Grand Canal, the San Marco basin, the Rio del Palazzo and the Rio de San Zulian. The core of the Sestiere is made up of Piazza San Marco, the ancient political and judicial center of the Republic of Venice. Near St. Mark’s Square, you will admire the Bridge of Sighs, which connects the Palazzo Ducale with the prisons, and the Rialto Bridge, which connects the two banks of the Grand Canal, from where you can enjoy a fabulous view of the city. In the evening, we suggest you enjoy a cicchetto, the typical Venetian aperitif. It is a small taste of fish or cold cuts, hot or cold, placed on bread or polenta, to be enjoyed standing up and accompanied with an inevitable shade of red or white wine.
Optional food and wine experience:
In the evening, you can dedicate yourself to a bacaro tour, visiting the most characteristic places in Venice where you can taste cicchetti together with a good glass of wine, accompanied by a local guide or with the help of maps and directions to reach the most appreciated bacari of the city.
This morning, you will continue your visit by vaporetto (waterbus), admiring what has been defined the most beautiful “street” in the world, that is the Grand Canal, overlooked by two uninterrupted scenes of historic buildings, homes of great families and the scene of sumptuous and colorful parties. You will then visit one of the oldest and most fascinating districts of the city: the Jewish quarter. The Ghetto, with its five synagogues, the Jewish Museum and its very high tower-houses, is the right place to relive five hundred years of Western history and to get to know a complex and very multifaceted culture.
After breakfast, you will get on the vaporetto to reach two of the islands of the Venice lagoon, Murano and Burano, respectively famous for the glass masters and the manufacturing of a particular type of lace. The island of Murano, where, in the fourteenth century, the numerous incandescent furnaces that had caused so many fires in the Serenissima were moved, hosts, in addition to the numerous craft shops, the interesting Glass Museum where you can admire all the beauty of this ancient art and the precious creations of glass masters. You will visit the Duomo, wandering around the small squares of the island and you can do some shopping in the delightful little shops that line the canals. Burano, the island where traditional lace is worked, will surprise you not only for the precious handcrafted creations, but also for the bright colors of the houses that line its canals and which, tradition has it, were painted by local fishermen to easily distinguish them when returning home from fishing. You will stroll through the colorful alleys, you can visit the lace museum and have fun photographing the crooked bell tower. The island is also a natural oasis and place of cultivation of native vines of the lagoon. On request, you can visit the islands accompanied by a private guide. Before returning to the hotel by vaporetto, you can stop for a drink in one of the bars overlooking the main square. Return to Venice by vaporetto (waterbus).
In the morning, from the Venice station, you will take the train that will take you to Rome and then to the Fiumicino Airport for your return flight.
